The Book of Jonah is one of the twelve minor prophet books in the Old Testament. (It’s also one of three Old Testament books that are considered short stories, the other two being Esther and Ruth.) In Jonah, we see the Lord calling out to Jonah and giving him a simple message: go tell the people of Nineveh that judgment was coming. Nineveh was the capital of Assyria, a cruel enemy of Israel. Of course, you know that Jonah wasn’t too excited about carrying out God’s plan.

Do you have questions about C.I.Y. Move? Chances are that your Mamma does. That’s why we put together a list of the most commonly asked questions about the C.I.Y. Move trip.

Q:

When will the group depart from the Christian Church of Jasper?

A:

The group will depart at 5:00 P.M. from the Christian Church of Jasper. Parents may begin to drop students off at the campus at 4:15 P.M. Please, do not be late. Our teen ministry team experienced enough buzzer-beaters during March Madness – we don’t need any in April.

Q:

What should my student pack?

A:

A Bible. Seriously, the number one thing students forget is a Bible followed by deodorant. Make sure your student has both! Your student needs clothing for three days, including pajamas. Your student may also want to bring a bathing suit.

Q: Does my student need bedding?

A:

No. The hotel will provide adequate bedding. Who are you kidding? We both know students don’t sleep on these events.

Q:

Does my student need spending money?

A:

Yes. Money for snacks and a souvenir is more than adequate.

Q:

What happens at C.I.Y. Believe?

A:

There is a lot that happens in a weekend at C.I.Y. Believe, so much that we don’t want to type it out. Luckily, the good folks at Christ in Youth did. Follow this link to the C.I.Y. Believe website.

Every day millions of men, women, and children suffer from the ghastly consequences of unsafe water sources. The grim reality of our planets increasing demand and decreasing supply of safe water cannot be ignored. During the fall of 2010, The Well Teen Ministry announced a new initiative called, “The Well Project.”

The Well Project is our desire to be the embodiment of Jesus Christ. It is our goal to provide a community in Zambia, Africa with a well that will supply many with safe water. The project will exceed $5,000, and will be accomplished through future partnerships with Active Water and Blood Water Mission. Our hope is, by providing safe water, many will exchange the empty wells of lesser gods for the full well of a greater God.

Paul continually reminds the Church throughout the whole New Testament to pray for him, and the others who were being persecuted (2 Thessalonians 3:1-5; Colossians 4:3, 18).

Prayer allows us to join with God in obedient desire to see His will done here on earth as it is in heaven.

HOW DO I PRAY?

Worship- Pray with your eyes on God, the King of Kings, without looking at a specific circumstance. It is easy to let the statistics of persecution be overwhelming, or to feel defeated even before praying. But when you start your prayer from the place of exultation of God, then you will be more aware that we are fighting from victory, and not just for it.

With hope- Because of the good news, we pray for worship and into hope. • Ask for guidance from the Holy Spirit – It is easy to pray for what we think must be prayed for, but be sure to also listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying.

WHAT SHOULD I PRAY FOR?

Pray Scripture:

2 Thessalonians 3: 1-5
Acts 4:29-31
Philippians 1:9-10 9

Pray for strength and endurance for those being persecuted.

Pray for faith and provision for their every need.

Pray for protection, especially for those in leadership, and for their families.

Pray for Jesus to be constantly glorified in every situation as the Church is under pressure.

WHO SHOULD I PRAY FOR?

Make it personal- Who do you know that knows someone being persecuted? Pray for them. What have you read recently that suggests hardship for believers? Pray about it. What missionaries or mission organizations do you know? Pray for their work.

People from the film- Pray for the people in Love Costs Every Thing who shared their stories and hardships. Use the Prayer Cards (available for download below or at www.lovecostseverything.com) to remind yourself to pray for each of them.

Pray for the persecutors- The hardest of hearts, so that like Saul, they would become heroes of the faith and have their names changed forever (Paul). That they would be written in the book of life, and change the tide.

Yourself- How did watching the film challenge your own faith? How might you ever be affected by persecution? Pray for boldness and strength for yourself.

WAYS TO KEEP PRAYING:

Subscribe to Voice of the Martyrs and each month you can read about what is going on around the world. Commit to praying about those events and the people affected by them.

Get a map- Mark the regions that God has placed on your heart to pray about.

Set an alarm to pray daily for the persecuted church – Set your phone to go off at 8am every day. Every time you hear it, pray for your persecuted brothers and sisters.

Avocate

Give the persecuted church a voice. Consider contributing to the Hudson Institute or the Voice of the Martyrs. Inform your friends and family about the global persecution crisis, download the Newsweek article, “The War on Christians” HERE. Finally, consider writing your Senator. The United States provides billions of dollars in foreign aid to the worst, religious freedom offenders.
The Apostle Paul once said, “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17) Are you living the new life or the old life? Far too often, Jesus-followers resemble the living dead. While we have been given a new life, we often struggle to abandon an old way of living. The result is a zombie of an old life that won’t go down with a fight, and sometimes it may feel like a losing battle. Make no mistake. A new life in Christ requires a new way of living.

Join us for a three week series, How to Survive a Zombie attack. During this time, middle and high school students will explore how to have a new life in Jesus Christ as they examine the writings of Romans, 2 Corinthians, Ephesians, and Colossians.
