Haiti, Day 3

Tuesday, June 15 the team began work at the orphanage. I was proud of many of our students who worked above and beyond the call of duty. Today the team fabricated bunk beds which we hope to assemble tomorrow. After the work day, the team toured Port Au Prince. The devastation caused by the earthquake was simultaneously captivating and heartbreaking.

Monday June, 14 we finally arrived on the ground in Haiti after a three hour delay and a few rough landings. The team was greeted by our host Leon and our interpreters Cola and Melrick. We eventually arrived at the Coconut Villa late at night.

Today the team began the journey to Porte Au Prince. So far, Kalah won the first round of Apples to Apples, Bo Webster won a push-up contest, and everyone enjoyed their fair share of pizza. Meanwhile the team wraps up a short day and prepares to wake up at 4:00 A.M.

The Burner is a coffee house for middle and high school students. Come sip on your favorite coffee, latte, or smoothie while enjoying a variety of special guests and artists. The best part? It’s all free. This months special guest is Mulberry Improv Comedy. The Burner will be hosted at the Christian Church of Jasper on June 27. Doors open at 6:30 P.M.
